Art Trip to Siamsa Tíre

On Wednesday 7th of November, second year Art students visited Siamsa Tire. Tralee. There, they viewed met with and viewed the work of artist Niall Naessens. During the visit, Niall spoke to the girls about his inspiration, influences and printmaking techniques. As a practising artist, is was great to hear and see the processes which he uses in order to  create work from idea to realisation.

Students learned a lot about

  • the importance of looking at the work of artists who have explored the same subject matter, media or style- both past and present.
  • Using knowledge of other artists in order to continue the evolution of the art cycle.
  • The amount of time and labour of love that is invested in creating the work.
  • The risk taking and becoming comfortable in the uncertainty of it all, until you reach the finish.
  • Learning from the mistakes and finally knowing when to stop, step back and appreciate the work for what it is.

It was a wet morning, but a fantastic time to get out of the art room and engage with artwork in a gallery setting. Students enjoyed the opportunity to meet, chat and ask questions to an Irish artist living and practising in Kerry.
