1st Year Football(2022-2023)
Our first year squad travelled to Mallow to take part in the Munster LGFA First Year Blitz. Every girl contributed and we played Scoil Pól from Limerick in the final. SBK played with heart and determination and won the final on a score of 1-2 to 1-1. Our Captain, Lauren MacSweeney, accepted the plaque on behalf of the team.
2ND Year Football(2021-2022)
Our 2nd Year football team were crowned county champions after an impressive campaign in the “B” championship of the Kerry Junior competition. This was a massive achievement considering our girls were up against a lot of other schools “A” team consisting of 2nd 3rd and 4th years. Such opposing schools in the competition included Presentation Secondary Schools Tralee, Listowel & Castleisland, Killarney & Castleisland Community Colleges, Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne, Tarbert & Causeway Comprehensive Schools, Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí and Mercy Mounthawk’s “B” and “C” team. Our girls received a bye in the first round before opening with a comprehensive win over Castleisland Community College in Lewis Road. The girls then met Mounthawk “C” in the semi-final where an early barrage of goals ended the game as a contest by half-time. A physically strong Mounthawk “B” team were the opponents in the final but were no match for our girls as they ran out victorious on a scoreline of 7-4 to 0-11. Immense credit is due to these young ladies as they displayed a tremendous aptitude for the game as well as showing fantastic resilience through their commitment levels. A highly rewarding experience for all involved, lets hope this young crop of players continue to go from strength to strength Meán Scoil Bríd Naofa Abú!

A feast of goals were on offer in the 2nd Year Football League Final which took place the 3rd of March in Fitzgerald Stadium. This was an internal league organised by the school where each class competed against each other with the finalists earning the opportunity to play in Fitzgerald Stadium. Presentation Blue claimed to the cup on the day with team captain Aoise O'Donoughe also winning the Player of the Tournament Award. Kate Forde was awarded the Player of the Match Award for her outstanding performance on the day. An incredibly enjoyable experience was had by both players and organisers. It was fantastic to see so many students show such a keen interest in Gaelic football, be it for competitive pursuit or recreational enjoyment. Physical activity through sport as well as the experience of being part of a team is important for the development of any young person. Let’s hope these budding young footballers keep up the good work and keep training with their clubs for more enjoyable days out like this, Meán Scoil Bríd Naofa Abú!
JUNIOR FOOTBALL(2022-2023)
It was a successful year for our Junior football team as they reached the Munster “A” semi-final eventually losing out to St. Mary’s, Middleton. Our girls topped their group consisting of ISK and John the Baptist Secondary School, Hospital. Loretto Fermoy were the opposition in the quarter-finals where we had a comprehensive victory on a scoreline of 13-9 to 2-2. This was one of our best performances of the year. A strong St. Mary’s, Middleton team eventually got the better of our girls in the end after a hard fought battle. They ran out 4 point winners in the end on the astroturf in Bishopstown. This was a fantastic experience for this team that have been building since last year, a lot of these players are underage next year again so watch this space! Meán Scoil Bríd Naofa Abú!
SENIOR FOOTBALL (2021-2022)
St. Brigid’s Senior Ladies had a longer year this term, competing in the Munster competition before Christmas, and the Kerry competition after Christmas. The girls were unlucky not to progress in the Munster competition, falling to Rathmore in the second round. The Kerry competition took place after Christmas, with Pres taking home the shield with a fantastic win over ISK just before Easter. The girls showed excellent commitment all year, and were a pleasure to be involved with. An excellent team atmosphere was present all year with plenty of enjoyment in every session!
Coach: Mr. Kevin Sheehan
