History Club

History Club in St. Brigid’s Presentation Secondary School

What is the History Club?

The History Club provides an opportunity for learners to obtain a wider understanding of History. History is the knowledge of and study of the past. It is the story of the past and a form of collective memory. History is the story of who we are, where we come from, and can potentially reveal where we are headed. It helps us understand and grapple with complex questions and dilemmas by examining how the past has shaped (and continues to shape) global, national, and local relationships between societies and people. The history club provides a forum outside of the classroom for students interested in historical study, research, discussion, creativity, fun and debate.

History Club Aims

The main emphasis of the History Club is to enlighten its members about the history and traditions of St, Brigid’s, Killarney, the nation and the wider world. Students then use this knowledge, in a positive and constructive manner. Club members are taught research, presentation, organisation and leadership skills. We have begun the fledging process of members creating their own work in the form of projects and exhibitions which we ultimately aim to put on display as an exhibition or entered competitions as the club grows.
