In September 2024 some of our 5th year French students headed to Bordeaux in France. Below is a sample of what they got up to.......

Day 1

Travel to Bordeaux

Students started with a 90-minute guided walking tour of Bordeaux. From the wide avenues of neo-classical neighbourhoods surrounding the Quinconces and the Grand Theatre, to the narrow lanes of the Saint-Pierre neighbourhood, this tour invited students to discover the diversity of the heritage of Bordeaux. The exemplary restorations which spread throughout the city represented the wide spectrum of Bordeaux mentalities and attest to its rich history

A boat trip on Le Garonne with Les Bateaux Bordelais. Students enjoyed smooth and silent sailing on the Sirius: air-conditioned interior, stunning 360° view of Bordeaux and the Garonne from the rooftop.

Day 2

Self-guided visit of Bunker 502. Built in 1943 under the German occupation, this 120 m² bunker, specialized in telecommunications, was built underground to be protected from bombardments. Closed and demolished in 1946, it fell into oblivion until 2015. This place, never visited before, knows how to make the link between past and present, in an immersive, educational, heritage and fun way.

Free time to explore and grab lunch

Self-guided visit of Dune du Pilat.

A visit to Bassins des Lumieres. Bordeaux’s submarine base was built by the Germans during the Second World War. Culture spaces is bringing the base back to life by creating the largest French digital art centre holding major immersive exhibitions.

Day 3

Students spent the day at Futuroscope.
