A wonderful new addition to St Brigid's Secondary School, an ASD special class, opened in September 2020. This class caters specifically for students with a diagnosis of autism and allows for specialised, individual teaching for students, who also remain integrated with the mainstream student body. The teachers over the class for the school year 2022/2023 are Jenna Moynihan and Rebecca Fisher, who have a wealth of experience in ASD specific settings. The room incorporates the TEACCH principles which were designed by the University of Carolina to guide structured teaching for autistic students. We also operate a lunch club so that students with an autism diagnosis can take some time out and relax in our chill-out area (pictured below). The class can cater for a maximum of six students. Any parent who is seeking a placement for their daughter for the next academic year is encouraged to apply promptly due to the limited capacity.

Leaving Certificate students Career Guidance

The Guidance Counsellor will meet with all Leaving Certificate students individually during their final school year to discuss their options post Leaving Certificate. Leaving Certificate students can avail of as many career appointments as they need in their final year of school. All Leaving Certificate students are timetabled for either LCVP or Career Guidance each week. The students are encouraged to engage in career investigations and to research careers and courses that interest them.
